Unite Students helps students make the leap to university

15 June 2022

  • In partnership with UCAS, Unite Students will be at Leeds Beckett University where students, teachers and parents can discover Leapskills
  • Unite Students provides prospective students with a free workshop and online game to prepare them for the reality of going away to university
  • Teachers and parents are encouraged to find out more about the free resource and how it can help their pupils

Unite Students, the UK’s largest provider of student accommodation, has partnered with UCAS to deliver key skills in making the ‘leap’ to university to more prospective students.

The accommodation provider will be attending three UCAS events this summer in Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham to showcase its Leapskills course to students, teachers and parents.

Endorsed by the Department for Education, Leapskills is a free workshop which can be delivered in schools, colleges and sixth forms.

Research previously carried out by Unite Students shows there is a gap between expectations and reality in the skills students need to help make the ‘leap’ to independent living at university.

The workshops are designed to help students prepare for getting the most out of their experience by helping them to learn about managing their finances, making new friends and juggling academic studies with a new social life.

A team from Unite Students will be at the following UCAS events…

  • Leeds Beckett University, Blue Sports Hall, Headingley Campus – Thursday 16th June 2022 and Friday 17th June 2022 – 8.30am to 5pm
  • Hall 6, NEC Birmingham – Monday 20th June 2022 and Tuesday 21st June 2022 – 8.30am to 5pm
  • Exhibition Centre Liverpool, Kings Dock, Liverpool Waterfront – Tuesday 28th June 2022 – 8.30am to 5pm

Richard Smith, Chief Executive at Unite Students, said:

“Our purpose at Unite Students is to create a Home for Success for students. Leapskills is a vital part of that journey, ensuring that students’ expectations match the reality of independent living while studying before they even arrive at university.

“We are incredibly proud of the Leapskills programme and have seen first-hand the benefits in helping thousands of students prepare to make the leap to university. Our ambition is to grow this programme to reach even more young people so we can help them prepare in the right way for their move to university.”

Schools and colleges interested in accessing Leapskills, which is a free resource for their pupils, can sign up here.
