Unite Students buys Glasgow site to build 934-bed property

• Unite Students acquires central Glasgow development to develop 934 beds
• The £126million Central Quay project will complete for the 2027/8 academic year
• Full planning permission for the site was received earlier this year
• The Clyde riverside project means the Group will have a 3,200-bed portfolio in the city

Unite Students, the UK’s largest provider of student accommodation, has purchased a Glasgow site to build a new 934-bed property.

The company has acquired the new £126million city centre development and is set to open the building ahead of the 2027/28 academic year.

The Central Quay property, north of the River Clyde, will include a social marketplace café, yoga room, gym, screen rooms, and a garden room with a terrace.

Full planning permission for the scheme was received earlier this year and the deal means the Group will have more than 3,200 beds in the city.

It will help meet rising student demand while also easing Glasgow’s housing shortage by freeing up existing homes for local families.

Development in this central location is set to unlock a long-term vacant site on the river corridor to benefit the community.
