- The mixed-use scheme will include community and light industrial space
Unite Students, the UK’s largest owner, manager and developer of student accommodation, has secured planning permission for a new 511-bed property in south London.
The Kennington Lane development in Lambeth will open in time for the start of the 2029/30 academic year.
The development will have excellent connectivity to Kings College London, University of Arts London and London South Bank University and include a cinema room, karaoke room, gym, breakout study spaces and a landscaped terrace.
The mixed-use scheme, designed by AHMM architects, will also include community and light industrial space, as well as improved landscaping along Kennington Lane.
Lambeth Council unanimously approved the plans citing the scheme’s positive community impact and the benefits for the local job market.
Unite Students’ development pipeline now stands at 10,000 beds for delivery over the next five years, with a total planned investment of £1.9 billion.
Tom Brewerton, Group Development Director, at Unite Students, said: “This is an exciting new development for us as it’s our first in Lambeth, a prime Zone 1 location.
“The area is popular with students, offers fantastic transport links across London and is ideally situated for a range of universities.
“The scheme will help to address a shortage of student accommodation in the capital and free up much-needed privately rented homes for local families and professionals.
“With a record development pipeline, we’re working hard to meet the demand for modern, affordable and safe student accommodation across England, Scotland and Wales.”
