Unite Students scooped two prizes at the 2016 Bristol Post Business Awards, which was held at Ashton Gate Stadium on 29 June . Unite picked up the Large Business of the Year award before taking coveted overall Business of the Year accolade. More than 500 people attended the event which was sponsored by University of the West of England (UWE) and saw a record number of entries. The judges cited Unite’s sustainable and conscientious approach as main reason for their decision to award Unite with the overall award.
Unite Students Chief Executive Richard Smith said:
“We are absolutely delighted to have won the awards. It’s a wonderful achievement, recognising the hard work and commitment of everyone in the business and it is especially pleasing as it comes in our 25th year.
“The quality, creativity and innovation of business in Bristol is as strong as it has ever been. As such to be recognised from amongst a strong local business community is a real honour.
“As well as our continued financial success and best ever independent customer satisfaction survey results I’d like to think that the judges saw our genuine passion to achieve our core purpose of providing students with a home for success. This means providing a comfortable environment which enables students to achieve more during their time at university.”
Unite began in Bristol in 1991 and currently employs more than 350 people in the city, providing accommodation to almost 3,500 students across 15 properties. Unite’s commitment to Bristol remains steadfast and this is demonstrated through recent property openings and the recent purchase of the Bristol Royal Infirmary building. Investing in the refurbishment and creative reuse of this great building will accommodate new headquarter offices for 250 staff, additional student accommodation, together with a new medical school facility in conjunction with the local NHS Trust.
