Unite donates £40,000 to UK charities
Unite Students has donated a total of £40,000 to three UK charities on behalf of its employees.
As a gesture of thanks for staff’s hard work following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Unite offered to donate cash to charitable causes chosen by staff. Unite pledged to donate £20 per employee to a charitable cause and employees were given the chance to vote for their chosen charities.
As a responsible business, Unite works hard to make sure it has a positive impact on local communities around the UK.
These charitable donations have now been shared with NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Appeal, British Heart Foundation and Student Minds:
NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Appeal
Donation: £15,980
The Covid-19 Urgent Appeal was launched by NHS Charities Together to raise funds to support NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by Covid-19. Our donation will help support the wellbeing of NHS staff and volunteers and directly fund a wellbeing pod for staff to sleep in.
Ellie Orton, Chief Executive of NHS Charities Together, said:
“A huge thank you to the staff at Unite Students for choosing us as one of your beneficiary charities and to the company itself for making such a generous donation. It will make a real difference for the work of NHS charities across the country as they support NHS staff, volunteers and patients dealing with the Covid crisis and the other challenges faced by the NHS this winter.”
British Heart Foundation
Donation: £12,616.50
Staff and students have regularly donated items, or volunteered their time since 2017, when Unite first entered into its formal partnership with British Heart Foundation. Our donation will help the British Heart Foundation continue its life-saving research.
Karen O’Donoghue, Head of Retail Partnerships at British Heart Foundation, said:
“We want to say a huge thank you to the employees of Unite Students for their generous donation. Every donation will help us in our mission to beat heartbreak for families around the UK.”
