Bristol Pride thanks Unite Students for support

Pride celebrations across the UK took place in a very different way this year.

Covid-19 has made significant changes to how social events can safely take place, and for the most part that means rethinking face-to-face get-togethers and replacing them with digital gatherings.

Bristol Pride, an event attended by 40,000 people last year, was no different.

The entire line up of events was rethought and produced online to ensure the safety of all those involved and attending, reaching a huge 638,000 people. As it was Unite Student’s fourth year as headline sponsor of the event, Daryn Carter, the Chief Operating Officer of Bristol Pride wanted to say thank you to everyone at Unite for helping to make their online events a possibility at such a difficult time.

“Without Unite’s support we would not have been able to make two weeks of online events happen, to bring the Pride celebrations for people to enjoy safely from home.”

Pride is an important part of our ‘Room for Everyone’ pledge, so we were excited to be able to help and support such a valuable organisation, in our home city of Bristol. As this year’s events were online, it gave us a chance to remove geographical location as a barrier, with our colleagues from all over the UK contributing to the Pride Virtual Parade video, part of the line-up of Bristol Pride’s events.

The two-week online festival finished on 12th September but you can catch up on all the events and activities, including our Pride Parade video, via Bristol Pride’s YouTube channel.
