Accommodation Matters S03E03: Unite Foundation takeover
15 December 2021
The latest episode of Accommodation Matters is now live, and this month, we’re sharing a very special episode: a takeover by the Unite Foundation, in which the panel discusses the university experiences of estranged and care-experienced students.
Established in 2012, the Unite Foundation is an independent charity which supports estranged and care-experienced students with a unique scholarship that takes care of their bills and accommodation throughout the duration of their course, and Unite Students is proud to be their accommodation partner of choice.
In this episode, the panel – which features two former Unite Foundation students – explores how the student experience differs for care-experienced and estranged students, how the Higher Education sector has adapted to better accommodate the needs of these students in the past decade, and what more it can do for the future.
Director of the Unite Foundation, Fiona Ellison takes the reins as guest host for this episode, and is joined by a panel of:
- Dr Peter Tormey, Senior Widening Participation Officer at Edinburgh Napier University
- Bethia Green, former Unite Foundation student
- Sherique, former Unite Foundation student
The latest Unite Foundation student survey results are available here. You can find out more about the Foundation – including its own podcast This Is Us, and information on how to donate – from its website, https://thisisusatuni.org/.
