In February 2022, we published Living Black at University – the first report into the experiences of Black students in UK purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA).
We launched a sector-wide Living Black at University Commission to take forward the recommendations and, 18 months on, we’re ready to share what we’ve learned in a new report.

In 2022, Unite Students set up a sector-wide commission to activate the recommendations of our Living Black at University report, which explored students’ experience in UK student accommodation. With the Commission now in its second phase and run in partnership with CUBO, we caught up with the new Commission chair, Carol Thomas.
