Darren Ellis, director of higher education engagement

Darren is responsible for the group strategy for higher education and relationship management of our university partners. Darren joined Unite Students in 2002. He was appointed higher education engagement director in January 2016 having held a variety of roles within Unite including university partnership director. Prior to joining Unite, Darren spent 17 years working for Barclays Bank PLC where he held a number of senior roles.

Tom Brewerton, university partnerships director

Tom joined Unite Students in 2015 as an Acquisition and Development Surveyor, having previously worked in the healthcare property development market for 5 years. Whilst in the Development team, Tom delivered a number of high quality projects across the UK whilst working in partnership with our university partners and became Acquisition and Development Associate Director in 2016. In 2017, Tom moved over to the University Partnerships team and became University Partnership’s Director in November 2017. Tom intends to use this platform to build upon and strengthen the university partnerships whist also bringing the development experience to the team. He is a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

Chris Cater, Higher Education Engagement Manager

Chris joined Unite Students in 2014 as a Service & Sales Manager, covering sites across the country, having previously been a retail Area Manager. After 10 months in this role, and involvement in all aspects of our operation, Chris then became the City Manager of Manchester, before moving to carry out the same role covering Bristol & Bath. In January 2018, Chris moved over to our Higher Education Engagement Team. He aims to deliver a strong relationship base across our university partners and sector bodies nationwide, as well as supporting our internal teams by bringing his strong operational knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education sector to the table.
